How to Use the SimpleChecking Free Check Book Register
To get out of debt, determine whether your job or side gig pays you enough, or calculate how much you really spend on candle-making supplies - you need the right financial tool. The SimpleChecking website is that tool, and it's completely free! Below is a step-by-step guide to using SimpleChecking.
Create a User ID
First, you'll need to create a user ID to login to SimpleChecking. The ID must be unique within the SimpleChecking site; for example - if someone else is already using "bigbucks98", try using "bigbucks99" instead. Or not. Your password must be at least
5 characters long. You may use longer, more complex passwords (containing
non-alphanumeric characters), but this is not a requirement.
Create Accounts
Once you create your ID, login here and create your accounts. You'll need to create an account for your checking, savings, cash, and other financial accounts. A tip: it's a good idea to create a separate "cash" account where you can enter things like ATM withdrawals from your checking or savings accounts as deposits into "cash". Then, when large cash purchases are made, you can record what the purchases are for within the cash account - allowing you to keep track of where your money goes whether you make purchases with your debit card, credit card, or cash.
Create Categories
After you create your accounts, it's time to create categories for your income and expenses. For example, you can create an "Employment" category to track income from your job(s), and a separate "Business Ventures" category to track how much your side "gigs" enhance (or detract) from your financial status.
Enter Transactions
Now that you've created your accounts and categories, you can start tracking your spending and income. Go to
the checkbook page, and enter transactions based on whether they are deposits or withdrawals to or from your accounts. Every transaction will add or subtract from your account balance. Once you refresh the page after entering a transaction, you can view the updated balance at the top of the checkbook page.
Summarize Income and Spending by Category
After time, you'll establish of history of transactions; this will allow you to zero in and really determine which endeavors are producing for you, and which are costing more than they should. A handy snapshot of how much goes to what will give you insight into where cutbacks need to be made or whether it's time to pursue new income opportunities. Thank your for using Simple Checking!
